Youth Vote Could Make a Major Difference for Democrats

Young Voters Lean Left, but Biden's Support May Be Tepid

WEB voters under 30 tend to lean left of center overall and could make a major difference for Democratic candidates. The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the youth wing of the Democratic Party of the United States. YDA operates as a separate organization from the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

In 2020, Biden carried young voters by more than 20 points against Trump, but some of that support appears to have been tepid and tied to anti-Trump sentiment rather than enthusiasm for Biden himself. Just a quarter of people under 45 said they would definitely support Biden in a general election compared with 56% of older voters.

The YDA is the nation's largest youth-led partisan political organization, with over 20,000 members nationwide in 50 states and the District of Columbia. The YDA's mission is to engage young people in the political process and to elect Democratic candidates at all levels of government.

The YDA is working to mobilize young voters for the 2022 midterm elections. The organization is focusing on issues that young people care about, such as climate change, healthcare, and education. The YDA is also working to register new voters and to get out the vote on Election Day.

If the YDA is successful in mobilizing young voters, it could make a major difference in the 2022 midterm elections. Young voters could help Democrats win back control of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and they could also help elect Democratic governors and state legislators.
